the only way to truly verify the authenticity of a photo is to mint at the point of capture. embedding wallets into cameras can assure that the metadata—including device, location, timestamps, etc.— is recorded onchain before it's edited. https://zora.co/collect/zora:0x5abf0c04ab7196e2bdd19313b479baebd9f7791b/128

In this interview @vitalik.eth talked about this idea too. Really smart although it’s probably going to require some kind of incredible meshnet or sat-link Internet system before it’s possible. And also a way to ensure cameras cann’t add falsified data https://pca.st/episode/89a6133a-fba9-436a-b55e-881ea2a69feb

i like this idea and would love it even more if it were like a Live Photo scroll and you mint where you choose

that’s a good one, would be amazing to see an app that can mint photos when capturing we’ll shoot a lot less then and it’ll all be a lot more meaningful

The image sensor needs to sign the capture fr. And the you need verifiable proof of location as the cherry on top, maybe via @foamspace And you need the provenance of any use of that media further down the editing chain to be verifiable - because raw photos aren’t what the public sees.

This is what we are building at @mayaprotocol. Minting at point of capture is the proof of capture and it is just one component. After that we need provenance proofs and we use ZKPs to ensure end to end (glass to glass) authenticity and privacy of media.

Check out the starling lab, they’ve been working with Reuters and certain manufacturers to do just this http://www.starlinglab.org/journalism/

I love the idea of provenance for photos and videos in this era of deep fakes & heavy propaganda.

Seeing this at the hardware level would be amazing. Technically can still be faked with some sort of display Infront of the camera but makes it very impractical
