I've been working on a new geology inspired series. The concept is very much connected to the ideas I explored in my book, Figured Stones - Exploring The Lithic Imaginary. The technique of height-mapping photographs of rock specimens from my personal collection allows me to interrogate the fractal dimensionality of geology and zoom into the infinite expanses of the minuscule. Once you cross the blood-brain barrier of dimensionality the extremities of scale move into paradoxical alignment as vast landscapes become visible on the surfaces of small stones and rocks. By mimicking the greater landscapes from which they emerge, rocks can reference the complete archive of geology but rather than dilute the power of the original, miniaturisation fortifies the things it copies for itβs through the inversion of scale (and proximity) that nature becomes distilled into its most primal essence β a reductive abstraction that remakes the world as a model of excellence. To be released soon.
