Hot take: Tipping culture is quintessential market failure & capitulation to pay for work fairly and adequately, shifting the burden & part of the blame to the consumer, in search of profit & tax-optimization.

I come from a "high tipping" country were 8-10% is expected in gastronomy and other "basic" (don't mean that derogatory, just for the lack of better term) service.
I'd be more happy to pay an 10% higher total knowing there's a 10% rev share with the actual service providers and background employees i dont see

I have been told multiple times in Japan that a tip is unnecessary, might even be rude, as the service provider felt well paid, took pride in their work outcome as is and felt their employer is honorable and their relationship is one of respect. 
handing down money to someone can also be patronizing.

It is the ultimate job insecurity and the maximum culture of catering to the rich. 

That said, it is nice to give people money and a good demostration of appreciation.

Agree… are there advocacy groups working on moving us past the tipping/exploitation paradigm? In the absence of one that I can donate to I shall ironically tip 200 $degen to you
