Hot take: Tipping culture is quintessential market failure & capitulation to pay for work fairly and adequately, shifting the burden & part of the blame to the consumer, in search of profit & tax-optimization. Tipping is corrosive & furthers exploitation by providing a safety net of "with tips I can make it"

I come from a "high tipping" country were 8-10% is expected in gastronomy and other "basic" (don't mean that derogatory, just for the lack of better term) service. I'd be more happy to pay an 10% higher total knowing there's a 10% rev share with the actual service providers and background employees i dont see

It is the ultimate job insecurity and the maximum culture of catering to the rich. That said, it is nice to give people money and a good demostration of appreciation.

Agree… are there advocacy groups working on moving us past the tipping/exploitation paradigm? In the absence of one that I can donate to I shall ironically tip 200 $degen to you
