What does Farcaster look like in the near term?

At some point this summer:

1. Coinbase Wallet will have a Farcaster-powered feed in their mobile app with millions of existing users. This will be the most significant increase to practical decentralization of the protocol since the beginning.

2. Our app will be called Farcaster. Easy to explain to the average person—"download Farcaster in the App Store".

3. Sign ups for most people will be free. Link your X / Twitter account and no payment required.

4. Wallet will be available on web. And thanks to auth addresses, no more "please open your phone to continue using this mini app".

5. Wallet and mini apps will expand their support to multiple chains. If there's an interesting app in crypto, the goal will be to have it play nicely with Farcaster.

6. We're going to continue scaling our weekly reward programs: iterating on casting and building mini apps, but we're also working on a new version of the invite program that rewards referrals AND retention.

Finally went to Erewhon in Venice and am sad to report:

1. It's everything the stereotype implies, down to the twee foodie-ness, throngs of yoga-pants-americans, etc
2. It's actually good, which is what sucks about Affluent America: they have good taste, but there's an entry

In Europe of course good taste is not a function of wealth, and you can have the best meal or wine of your life in some podunk town in rural Spain or France. Also, the baseline quality of everything is higher, so you don't feel you're in cattle class if you're not wealthy.

I'm surprised we haven't seen more experimentation in terms of digital identity being dynamic. Most apps today treat identity as a flat object and don't think it often captures the full experience.

Loved Finiliars for this reason, they tried to integrate in places that people could live with the collectibles more (watch/widget) but its better if its able to be displayed. There is just no where that makes this possible atm.

To me this is something that an onchain + open social unlocks. An identity or collective identity that shifts with time, feeling, signal, or input.

Not suggesting this is a good idea, but for example a skin on your farcaster profile that changes with the mood of your posts.

Identity as status has been proven with PFPs, badges ect but feels like we can surface other types of identity better.

Make a custom algorithmic timeline that other people can subscribe to, then get paid to promote content to your audience. Kinda like /amps if custom timelines were a primitive in Farcaster.
