i don’t smoke or drink anymore, but there’s something undeniably badass about a woman holding a lit cigarette and a glass of champagne.

too many countries are trying to attract tech by focusing too much on making visas easy to get and not enough on making themselves functional and livable. i believe that cities which prioritize functionality and safety, with low crime and a high quality of life, will ultimately thriveβ€”but how many such places actually exist? people visiting singapore and being spellbound by its appeal is a testament to the fact that while visa policies are important, the overall functionality and quality of life of a city are crucial for making a lasting impression.

interesting read about how math and science can make you feel stupid, but feeling stupid is required to make discoveries, learn about the unknown. https://mathforlove.com/2024/09/the-centrality-of-stupidity-in-mathematics/

is there a way to recover a receipts account? my phone number is changed, so i don’t have access to my previous number for otp. as a result i can’t unlink my farcaster account from prev receipts account and linking farcaster with the new account is failing. although no error is shown, i’m guessing it’s because of it being already linked.

why is doordash charging an extra $5 for operating costs when there's already a service fee? this seems like bad UX with zero clarity on what i’m actually paying for. am i now directly paying for the dasher’s salary? even with a dashpass, there are still various extra charges. i prefer to pay delivery fee instead of all this

a documentary on the development of PyTorch. nothing dramatic like the node js story but the short documentary shows how it was built with customer centric approach. another great example of how open source communities can help in driving innovation. kudos to Meta for opening its doors to contributions from other companies and individuals, and for maintaining PyTorch as an open-source project. their efforts have significantly enabled advancements in AI development. β€œThe real value of foundational open source projects is a long term value.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgP_LBtaUEc

TIL that Tully’s Coffee was founded in Seattle. I’ve seen more stores in Shinjuku than I have in all of Seattle.

it’s surprising how many people still think pressing the down button on an elevator is meant to make the elevator come down to them, rather than take them down. people will be people, i guess.
