contributing online is tough with all the haters, but it shouldn’t stop you from being true to yourself. "There’s a lot that’s bothersome about the world. Nevertheless we find a way to ayy lmao through it all…" good read by @visakanv https://visakanv.substack.com/p/oh-bother

just a reminder (to myself and anyone interested) not to believe in narratives unless they are backed by data. it’s becoming easier every day to spread stories that aren’t true, and their constant repetition, combined with an emotional connection, can make them feel very real.

game changer for (big) businesses who want to accept crypto as payment but don’t want to go through the hassle of making changes to their accounting systems and the fee is just 1.5%, lesser compared to cc payments fee (~2.5 - 3%). huge if a business is trying to expand in markets with unstable currencies https://docs.stripe.com/crypto/pay-with-crypto

i somehow didn’t know that the UAE has strict restrictions on the use of VoIP services. whatsapp, facetime, skype audio/video calls are banned here. there are local alternatives, but they require a subscription. as someone traveling for just a couple of days, it doesn’t make sense to get one. bummer.

i can spend hours debugging an issue and find nothing, but the moment i message someone for help, the problem suddenly reveals itself! happens almost every-time. sometimes i think the code just wants me to look silly. sigh!

how people went from liking the tech companies to hating them. this is probably an obvious one, but still interesting https://youtu.be/kh8g92rn7bQ

i recently watched hasan minhaj’s latest stand-up comedy show on netflix, where he joked about how crucial it is to choose a therapist who understands you culturally. it got me thinking - i hadn’t really considered this before, but it makes a lot of sense. when we’re dealing with personal challenges, they often involve family and society, and those relationships can vary significantly across cultures. if i’m seeking help, the therapist needs to truly understand these dynamics to offer meaningful advice.

a little history of the monokai theme, which many of us have used at some point. "Our perception of color is intricate and subjective, and even the most sophisticated approaches can’t fully capture it in an algorithm. This makes selecting a color palette more of an art than a science, with designers relying on intuition, experience, and feedback to create harmonious and functional combinations." https://monokai.pro/history

at one time, i found more joy in cooking if others enjoyed the meal i’d prepared, especially when i'd put in a lot of effort. cooking is my love language. now, though, i absolutely love my own cooking - i could happily eat the same thing for dinner, lunch, and then dinner again. home-cooked meals for the win! tonight's dinner: indian palak paneer

i have to admit that stripe developer documentation is top-notch. they literally have every thing that you will need to develop with stripe, while also ensuring it’s not too verbose. nothing is extra in that documentation. makes payment integration so easy. i remember from one of patrick’s interview that stripe prefers hiring people who can write well. i guess their documentation is a by-product of this focus.

someone finally shared their experience applying for japan’s new digital nomad visa. since it was introduced recently, there isn’t much information available to guide applicants. it’s disappointing that india isn’t on the list of eligible nationalities. https://www.tokyodev.com/articles/how-i-got-a-digital-nomad-visa-for-japan
