I am going tomorrow to get a SoftVue breast ultrasound and trying to decide if I should try to film it so people can see what itโ€™s like. Mildly concerned about flashing the entire internet It also will be a funny thing to document as this machine was only very recently FDA cleared, and itโ€™s not that widely available yet. So I am getting this screening done at what essentially is a medical device roadshow ๐Ÿ˜†

So this is supposed to be a better way to screen for breast cancer than the traditional methods?

Well doctors will still always say a mammogram is the gold standard But mammograms arenโ€™t as effective for dense breasts. It can be harder to see. A womanโ€™s breasts have a density rating A-D. The more dense your breasts โ€” this also increases your cancer risk while making everything harder to see They usually pair a mammogram with an MRI if your risk profile suggests you should, but those are $$$, require contrast, and take 45min. (There is a new fast breast method that takes 10 but even less avail than the SoftVue) The ultrasound has no radiation, while giving comparable visibility to MRI for way less cost, body stress and time. My hope is that they stop being mammogram first and start letting people use adjunct methods based on risk profile and breast density
