4. Following feeds are bad 

Everyone thinks they want a following feed. But even the people who ask for it churn faster when they get it. 

Following feeds get progressively worse as you follow more people. People used to complain that "the algo" didn't show them their friends.

This was surprising because at that time we didn't have an algo. It turned out they always followed a few people who casted 50 times a day and just drowned out everyone else.

am i the only one on following feed? 🤔

i get that they may be bad from an onboarding/churn perspective, bc people dont know what they want, or follow people theyre not actually interested in to start. but theyre good for liveness and synchronous events and topics, which are necessary for (esp crypto) social. izo

ive noticed for a while now that home feed pulls in fresher content after the first scroll pull and am grateful. if ive been away and wanna catch up first before seeing what people are talking about in the moment, home feed is great. its also prob better if ur broadcasting as opposed to chat mode. but following feed is pro interacting vs home which is pro acting (in the bartle sense)

liveness is one thing that following feeds are better at (for now)

yeah even in making you prune your following its more active than home feed, and more social vs parasocial. same on x

i use it if home feed gets boring but quickly get more bored 

even find myself hitting unfollow on ppl that are just repeating what everyone else is saying

surfacing voices, using tools, deleting data, farping /farp, ****ing /xxxx, drinking matcha

haters will say most people like being spoonfed content and it requires too many brain cells to filter content on ur own

yeah theres def times when home is better. if ive been irl for a bit its good to catch up on stuff thats happening. but most casts in that case are on avg ~6 hrs old. good to have both

my default is following, but use home when stuff like what v mentioned happens (50 casts from 1person, quote cast train)

home wasn’t appealing to me previously cause most was same ppl/similar content. i think it’s gotten better

also regardless of which is better at a given point or to who, i’m just glad we have reverse chron now given similar sentiment to op
