I would challenge that claim. I consider the attracting of capital to be one of the major reasons why blockchains have been corrupted away from their original ethos. This has, perhaps, happened slower than traditional capital markets but I think it is incorrect to say that it isn't happening.

The original ethos was "maximally censorship resistant" and there was a significant subculture centered around "maximally private" including Satoshi, who just lacked tech to achieve privacy at the time. Now I think the majority of the space (users and devs) don't really care about censorship resistance or privacy.

The way to mentally test this claim of mine is to ask the crypto people in 2012 and 2023 if "censorship resistance and privacy is more important than number go up". I believe the crypto people of 2012 would have given a resounding yes, and in 2023 you get responses like "we can't do any good if we aren't all rich...".

there’s been a clear shift from p2p digital cash to sov-centric digital gold. many new bitcoiners don’t know or care about custodial bitcoin; some even favor it. most are not planning on using it as money. otoh, if bitcoin were a private company, it very likely would not have even made it this far.
