How did such a ridiculous deal come together and get approved

Many such cases. I was involved in a start up that did this. I left early, so I didn't expect to get anything, but then the CEO hustled the COO (a really good guy that stuck with him will the end) and then got cut out at the last second just like this. Evil shit.
