Status games are a slippery slope and there are already a bunch of “social” apps available if people want to play them

Yeah I think so too but I think there are also better solutions here (and I’m sure the Merkle team and others will continue to experiment)

feels more like it's a temporary band aid solution to a larger problem with surfacing new users in the feed

I can see another FC client eventually monetizing something like this though

don't think it's the game that Warpcast is going to play

I don’t mean that boosts themselves are inherently bad (interesting experiment to boost smaller accounts) but I think they contribute to a larger trend of obsessing about reach, distribution, engagement, etc. that turns Farcaster into one big status game (which I don’t feel if I’m just texting my friends in a group chat)

Boosts can't be bought and limited to accounts <10K followers? Pretty limited cultural impact imo.

the moment boosts came out on the dating apps I realized I needed to start meeting people in real life again. made apparent how any connection on the app would be subject to algorithmic logic

took something fun (matching with potential dates) and made it seem like something I could be doing *better* *faster* *stronger* if only i'd pay.  bad vibes
