mark duplass is testing a new distro model, crowdfunding pre-orders for his tv series sadly only has ~100 participants and $11k raised (tho there’s still a month to go) i wonder how much this could have raised if it was onchain

Something tells me the way that payments are handled on the backend of this crowdfunding platform is not the reason that the campaign hasn't hit its goal

That’s probably true, but the deeper reason for doing this onchain is that the culture is fond of capital formation The folks using onchain rails *now* are the right audience for experiments like this, and the goal is to expand that set to more people (ideally with usdc)

I think that's a short-term phenomenon and won't scale because people won't always perceive magic internet money to be free Sure, maybe we could raise this guy more money onchain right now because crypto people are loose with their money but I don't see how that proves anything about the benefits of blockchains

The medium is the message Online payments have historically been clunky. As more people become comfortable with crypto rails, it will increase the velocity of money not just because the current cohort is gamblers, but because there will be more trust in the online payment system And we haven’t yet enabled attribution or receiving collateral as part of something like crowdfunding, which turns a donation into more of an investment — this also pulls money into projects like these If you’re bearish on use cases like this for crypto, what’s the consumer angle that interests you or keeps you faithful that this will be useful tech?
