I believe a big reason FC is not seeing more growth the last few months is due to a lack of interest and acceptance of trading and memecoins being the dominant narrative this cycle. FC's infra is best suited to be the defacto home for token projects and yet we see very very little projects doing so. I understand and appreciate the commitment to building, adoption and sustainability. I also recognize that 99% of memecoins will go to 0 by the end of this cycle. However - the current approach is making FC feel like a place that has an entirely different set of convos, most of which are not currently EV+. I say this all as someone that cares deeply about FC and it's growth but think it's important we recognize that crypto-natives on Twitter do not see value in being on here and that feels like a problem to me in the context of the next 12-24 months. It is unlikely that FC just leapfrogs crypto-native adoption and gets an influx of mainstream users without winning the wider crypto crowd over first.

Assuming you are right. And that @matthewb is also right and the root cause is that most people here don't put memecoins above building software or companies. I would also argue that Farcaster already offers more crypto-friendly legos than other platforms. What's the action point? I should stop casting about the things I like, and start casting about memecoins? (This comes from someone who considers memecoins a healthy and natural part of the adoption and experimentation curve.)

nah, I don’t think the action point is everyone shouting “rah rah memecoins” it’s more that folks here actively look down on anyone who engages in speculation, basically anything besides “building” but this sidesteps the reality that many people may need to speculate for various reasons, including to afford the time to build or work on whatever they’d like. so, this pervasive judgement isn’t necessarily productive to the growth of the network. and yes, agreed that FC has the most crypto-friendly legos. I believe it will ultimately succeed. I just wish people here were a bit more open-minded and more self-aware.

I feel like this assumes that no one on Twitter speaks out against speculative trading which certainly isn’t true Farcaster isn’t about porting over CT, it’s about building an entire social network with many communities Anyone is welcome to cast in various trading channels or start their own, not everyone has to agree You can’t change the culture, everyone is entitled to their opinion and can share it freely, you’re welcome to not follow them or instead lean into communities that you vibe with

Some types of topics, generate unusual volume. Today it's memecoins, but it could very well be politics, or anything some users feel passionate about. I don't think fc is hostile to memcoins, it's just that many users don't want a feed full of memcoin frames and memes and shilling. I think if we could mute a channel, everyone would be much more open. You want to cast about degen, cast 100 times a day, as long as you do it in a channel I can mute.

yes, of course there are critics on twitter as well. and agreed that the goal isn't to port over CT necessarily.
