The financial nihilism will continue until “you have two years to get rich and save yourself before AGI comes and takes your jobs and you are destined to live in Sam Altman UBI dystopia forever” is no longer the dominant narrative most people have not benefited at all from advancements in AI, it has only made them more anxious about the future, and while some things are skill issues I don’t think this is one. it’s a failure of either product or gtm or the tech just not being good enough yet

a few examples: 1. I remember listening to an interview w/ a quantum computing professor a few years ago on Odd Lots, basically framed QC as good for the end of privacy. when Weisenthal pressed him for good uses, he struggled. "Uhm, maybe there's like, some interesting diaries to read?" 2. Carmack on Rogan, similar question, "what's the use of VR?" Carmack struggled and said "well VR will be cool if you live in a trailer park, maybe your physical surroundings aren't so nice and you want to escape them?" I think, if pressed, you'd see those at the head of AI companies also struggle to articulate a vision for how these technologies are life affirming.
