Ran my first race in about a year today for the a village track meet in Okinawa. 1500m. Clocked in at 5:04.5. Not a time to write home about, but very light competition so it was a race against myself. Best thing was making some new friends with the local athletes.

Woah your 800m is way more competitive. Was that your race? I ran under 4:30 in the mile back in hs but don't think I ever got under like 2:08 for the 800

Yeah i did 400m and 800m mainly, 1600m and cross country were for training I liked 800m though because i wasn’t fast enough to be good at 400m (my 400 was like 0:56) but I also didn’t have enough endurance for 1600m 😂😂 Im starting to get back into running now and the hardest part is comparing myself to my old times 😂

Exactly. It's so hard. Your times in perspective make more sense. Feel like you could probably have built up the endurance for the 1600m but that 800m time is not shabby at all. I got back into it last year after about 15 years away. I don't train like I used to, so can't expect my old times, but a lot has come back more easily than I would have guessed with such little stimulus (I slow run about a mile a day). Just wish there were more races for people like us. Everything seems to be for the true long distance runners.

Yeah my family has been telling me to drop any ego i had around my old times and to just focus on building endurance - then once i have a core level it’ll be much easier to bring times back down
