Went on a multi family camping trip this weekend What is your feeling on parenting in that situation? Do you care if other people discipline or ask your kids to behave?

Closeness matters and context matters. We have very close family friends whose children I've been around since birth. I'm ok lightly disciplining their kids if I think it's in line with what they would do. With their friend's child, not so much. I think the issue often comes when other parents are stricter than you would be.

Also expertise and danger level matters. I have small kids, but imagining they're a bit bigger and things change. You trust adults to guide and act appropriately in their areas of expertise (especially if it's something like camping). As annoying as it is to see your child over-disciplined, it's just as frustrating to discipline another child and have another parent say "chill dude, no big deal" (if it really is a big deal)
