hope it's helpful on that front! in an ideal world nobody will be able to "farm" airdrops

What I think is helpful is the process you describe of a person progressing through increasingly complex / higher value / higher payoff add activities. 

I think that weighting rewards towards wallets that appear to be going through that sort of progression (which requires looking beyond activities related to the protocols in general) could be a way to direct more rewards towards those real people who are deepening their participation in the ecosystem more broadly

100% — I agree this is a really great approach for protocols wanting to build a stronger community that is more likely to stick around

Some though just want the marketing and attention and buzz from having infinite people paying attention to you, even if 99% of them disappear afterwards. I guess the optimistic view is that they hope more users will stick around and use their product because they think it's great. The pessimistic view is that they're just looking for exit liquidity, though I think the majority of protocols doing an airdrop aren't in this category.
