Yes to all that, with the added nuance that the “answer” is perpetually expanding through the creative outputs of individual nodes. You could say, “Humans are the dominant entity in this dimension,” and the response might be: “Because, at the very beginning of this node’s evolution, a subnode introduced a creative divergence that altered the trajectory of future forks.” This divergence led to the emergence of “local intelligence,” recursively generating more complexity from the supersystem than other entities—thus earning its place in the spotlight. For humanity, I believe that pivotal divergence was the invention of language. Did I go too far?

That’s a solid definition. Allow me to expand on it: The man-made context you mention—I’d frame it as artificial simulations. Agency, then, is the ability to operate outside these simulations, on one’s own terms. The anchors that tether us outside these constructs are often physical—material wealth, family heritage—or something rare and deeply individual. Many who appear to have agency might just be anchored into a different kind of simulation, one that isn’t strictly man-made but still shapes their reality. Religion, for instance, can serve as an anchor. But not just any religion—the kind rooted in ancient tradition, carrying human heritage with it, shaping not just belief but the way of being that comes with it.

I’ve come full circle to realizing that coding with AI might actually be less efficient on a micro-scale. Yes, AI is great for setting foundations and getting projects started, but at its core, it’s just a glorified template generator. When it comes to the inner workings—the actual plumbing of how things function—I still find it more enjoyable to do myself as a coder. And frankly, AI is still pretty bad at it, even with the best models like o1 Pro, Gemini 2, Flash, and others. ok bye.

It's awesome that you understand what I'm talking about. It feels like going on a pilgrimage whenever I pack my bags and head towards SF or anywhere else in the bay for that matter. Or anywhere else really.
