diving into luna's tiktok growth. anyone know how she got "500k followers" on there? doesn't feel like there's high quality engagement based on the comments there.

It's a common dark pattern for web2 social products that works until it doesn't

yeah feels like the comment section is so ded and a ghost town

What's more interesting to me is that fact that they (might have) bought followers on a social product that doesn't really care about follower count

TikTok's algo leans heavily on time spent watching a video + engagement on that video

So I'm guessing the followers are for "legitimacy" when/if people click thru, assuming they spend <1sec on the profile before clicking link in bio

yeah it’s a good point. it’s just that it’s funny because every single tweet and article mens luna as a TikTok star with 500k followers. 

They probably did that intentionally to get credibility
