usually not fully bearish on any tech but I really do not think calorie counting using purely vision is ever going to work. way too much variance in preparation methods that afaik cannot be picked up visually. 200-300 cal. margin of error is the difference between maintenance and gaining 1lb/week

Something to consider is that the FDA allows a 20% margin of error on labels.

i’d really wish that amazon’s fresh would include total calories purchased with the price of food they know what i buy, they know the SKU why not enrich the data stream?

This is the new way. Easy/fast/cheap data that might be wrong is better than no data at all. Also seeing this in my professional life.

I think Americans are always in a hurry and eat too quickly and don’t realize they’re full Having more ritual around meals like in other cultures helps with this too

I'm sure it can come along, calorie counting is rarely exact unless you have insane patience and free time. But I'm not about to prepare my food with that headset on lol.

As a type 1 diabetic I can say that at least eyeballing carb counts is very doable and becomes second nature after a while. It's obviously easier if you prepare most of your own food but eating out usually isn't a problem.
