L2s (the primary consumers of ETH blockspace) were originally using call data for posting their data to ETH which was much more expensive. When we switched to Blobs (a special data space for L2s) it reduced the gas cost to the L2. Therefore less gas is being burned by EIP-1559. There has been price discovery from Blobs recently but it’s nothing compared to what it was. And they are planning to expand blobs to make it even cheaper.
