I think tavern makes sense! Great to hear you speak, the tavern closed before I could speak on what you shared. I agree with your assessment that when people joined greatly impacted whether they stuck around. I got active in March. I’m still here and love it, but actually feel like an outlier from that time. At least from the artist community, many people that joined after me in March and later in April, ultimately, returned to X and left Farcaster behind. Maybe they will come back, but they likely felt they would have to dedicate more time and energy than they had to give. Some of those people with big X accounts had felt that first mover advantage and they still have it there. Tough to walk away from that and start from scratch in an unknown world with less guarantees. This ecosystem, like any other, in particular in crypto, is much harder the later you arrive on the scene.

FC also favors people who browse around and reply to others casts and don't just stay in their small circle. And some people are better at hopping into convos with people they don't know. But, yes, this takes time.

it’s a big change in behavior for many, but is so rewarding if you can dig deep enough to figure it out

It was difficult for some new people who came in later, some of which I had convinced to join here. They just couldn't get many followers, even with me quote-casting their or re-casting their casts and introducing them, etc. so they were frustrated and left. When I joined, it seemed like it was easier. It was pretty easy for me to get to at least 200, I remember.
