Being a father, seeing my oldest child's confidence fade and her being anxious and nervous about things breaks my heart. My oldest is sensitive to a lot of things, but she's out going and caring. She usually is not afraid to raise her hands or ask questions. She started 1st grade this year and maybe it's a big adjustments. She's involved in after school activities, but she's recently just started to ball and cry when playing in her basketball games. She is no longer having fun. I blame a lot of this on myself. I think my wife and I put a lot of pressure on her because she is very skilled and the best player on her team. The league she's in is more competitive than last year because we moved up a division.

I've taken a step back at having expectations and pushing her. If she wants to continue, if she wants to do the sport she can but I don't want to be that type of parent that pushes her. Also got word that she was crying at girl scout meeting today. She said she was getting sick and started crying, but when my wife went back to pick her up she said she was fine and wanted my wife to stay. I feel bad. I feel a lot of it is on my shoulders. I yell at my kids when they don't listen. I forget that they're just kids, but I also admit I don't know how to handle things. I always try to explain to them that I should not yell and that they should not yell, but that I do that because it's out of frustration and because I don't know how to get there attention.
