I ran ipfs add to upload an image 30 minutes ago and I still can't access it through any gateway. Is this typical?

This is usually a NAT issue. If your instance is not WAN accessible (ports not forwarded) then the gateways won't be getting your data.

It might depend on the gateways you’re trying as well as how well connected your IPFS node is. Are you able to access it through your local gateway? If not it might be peer to peer restrictions on your machine (windows is terrible about this)

I uploaded to IPFS for the first time the other week and ran into a steep learning curve. I ended up using Piñata to upload and pin the content (JSON, in this case), and then used the gateway they also provide to access the content later on (since they guarantee access to the content you pin).

Generally services like piñata offer pinning services. Pinning propagation on a local node (for some reason) takes forever. I haven’t dug too deep into it tho
