Approaching 30 is making me thinking of buying a specific 10+bd apartment in my hometown to lower my company's burn rate. The house is in an eBay-like but perpetual auction. Bids start from 70K€.

Ethereum did 7 tx/sec at peak yesterday. Mean response time was 4s. That needed a cluster of 10'000 nodes. 50% of that is running on VC money on AWS US East. Best part? YOU pay once, run forever. But some people want to keep the status quo of RENTING compute. https://x.com/dhh/status/1831392962485612930?s=46

Anyone who runs Ampere? 1/3 of TDP of an old EPYC with half the PCIe for 2000€ does not seem that bad.

I recently switched from a Mac to Linux. Learning that it is recommended to use a Trezor to boot your OS was not on my bingo card.

TIL systemd has a container and VM manager built-in https://www.freedesktop.org/software/systemd/man/machinectl.html This is actually kind of cool -- it is an abstracted chroot, meaning that it consumes Linux folder structures instead of a single format like Docker images. No more Dockerfiles, just use a file manager.

I paid someone else to bootstrap the frontend, so to check on the work I did a status page for demo.homestakeros.com during the weekend. Coincidentally, I learned new React hotness after like 8 year break from it. I also broke the mobile view. I still hate frontend development with frameworks.

What's your resting HR? I stopped caffeine and nicotine this week and Apple Watch says its now 53. Feeling drowsy and tired all the time though.

We have a soft launch of HomestakerOS at https://demo.homestakeros.com Bunch of stuff missing and incomplete, but the general idea can be previewed.

Today also, we ran into partial network outage because one of the ISPs that we use recycled their IPs and dynamic DNS failed to update: https://github.com/ponkila/homestaking-infra/discussions/60 #buidlinpublic

Today in homestakeros.com was triaging of SSV.network to be added onto the wizard. SSV lets the homestaker to lease their RPC endpoints for DVT users, incurring extra APR for stakers. https://github.com/ponkila/nixobolus/pull/32

New hardware for one of our homestaking computers arrived! NVMe is the fastest memory you can get. You need these because blockchain applications are I/O bound. While in theory these drives read and write 8GB/s, the reality is different -- when the drives are used constantly, performance drops dramatically.

This is a feature that I'm very excited on HomestakerOS.com -- a consolidated view into your infrastructure that shows how the nodes link together.
