from nate silver to perplexity and now to bloomberg terminal, whoever is doing polymarket BD deserves a raise.

bloomberg terminal, the most widely used software by financial institutions to access real-time markets and place trades (and therefore influence market movements and decisions), has integrated polymarket. 

this is huge for:
a) mainstream awareness and adoption - bloomberg terminal is ubiquitous in finance for data, news, messaging, price quotes, trading, analytics, etc.
b) credibility - bloomberg is known as a respected source of financial information

this could be huge for (but TBD):
a) liquidity - drive more users (non-US and institutional) to participate in prediction markets, leading to more market efficiency, tighter spreads, reduced volatility (a la "flywheel")
b) innovation - drive new ideas that combine traditional markets with prediction markets or that enhance existing forecasting tools, etc.

It sounds crazy to us, but I think we under-appreciate the way the US was formed: more decentralized than we are used to elsewhere (cf. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_exceptionalism & Tocqueville)
And one effect of decentralization is that you don't start with a central ID system (even today less than half of Americans have passports, the closest to a national ID card).

As for preventing people from voting, I don't see it from a French perspective, but I can definitely understand them on it, they think the voter identification they have now is good enough (it's not like anyone just enters the voting booth, you actually have to register before and give various proofs depending on the place, it's just not standardized which makes it easy to get scared about it), and trying to add more verification just unjustly targets people who historically have been targeted in voter suppression attempts. Plus you risk big if you actual try to illegally vote.

incredible how I haven't seen a single good informed take on Durov's arrest, not here, not on X and not on threads (regardless of the algo bubbles within them); it's not that people aren't thinking critically, they're just not thinking at all, just click -> type -> click with no in between

we know social media creates brainrot, and I'm not sure why people accept it for themselves, maybe they think the positives are worth it, or maybe we're just in the "cigarettes are good" phase of social media and people will hopefully start demanding better from/for themselves
