Building /quilibrium This week was a big one. - v2.0.5 released, massively improving sync and general tx landing - The network is now operating with roughly 4x the daily transaction volume of Ethereum - The network's total compute capability is now roughly 1/4 of an average Google data center - New dashboard/explorer is available at https://dashboard.quilibrium.com - Frame speed increased 2x, target for v2.0.x is to be brought down to 30s, which should bring overall transaction volume to roughly 8-12x Ethereum. Can you believe crypto VCs faded me? fucking lol

Sharing this on as many channels as possible: Release is presently scheduled for 2024/10/10 at 11:00pm UTC. We are monitoring geomagnetic activity associated with an unexpectedly large solar flare that may impact data centers and especially residential users on commodity hardware/satellite internet. In order to ensure a fully fair launch for prover ring membership, if NOAA reports indicate sufficient concern, we will respond accordingly either with extending the stasis period itself, or pausing the initial launch until the storm's end, which is approximately on the afternoon of 2024/10/11. If this rescheduling happens, we will give a definitive updated time for the process to begin or the stasis lock period to end. This week at /quilibrium The tail end of last week's testing revealed a showstopper that forced us to move the 2.0 launch date to 10/10. This week, we have had to do some rather insane surgery on the protocol to resolve the issue, and it has some important changes for the behavior of the network, but we're out of the thick of it. While it's not the 2.0 I originally envisioned, it's a release folks will be happy with. Well, maybe except for the people who were unhinged enough to send me death threats. I hope they find peace.

The internet perceives censorship as damage and routes around it. The endgame for this is next.

Season 2, week 1, right under the wire. I'm building /quilibrium. Been doing a lot of final testing to wrap things up for the next stage of 2.0 rollout, so the public ship log is short. Following up from last week, we have https://github.com/QuilibriumNetwork/channel, a mirror of our implementations of double-ratchet and triple-ratchet. We're about to roll out a quick update that makes async DKG more efficient, so keep an eye on this repo.

Years ago, when I started building a decentralized discord clone, people asked me why. I wanted a communication tool that was truly decentralized, in a way that no state actor was able to gain control over. Signal's design wasn't capable of group chats beyond a certain size. The features only went so far. And it has failure points such that countries block them by firewall and have to rely on the good graces of others to run proxies, which ultimately get shut down or blocked too. App stores do not share in this ideal — their concern is profit, and will bend backwards when forced to by regulatory bodies. Amazon and others are complicit in helping state actors maintain their control of the web, and are profiting handsomely from the arrangement. None of this happened by accident. And I only saw it getting worse. I realized what I was building in this chat application went beyond just chat, and how pressing it was to make this general purpose.

This week at /quilibrium we shipped - A massive cascade of changes to the bootstrap peer code (mostly on the p2p stack side) to unlock sustained volume with improved message delivery under 100k simultaneous peers (accidentally proved this over 200k peers because my deploy script had an oops, rip my infra budget): https://github.com/QuilibriumNetwork/ceremonyclient/tree/v2.0-bootstrap - Heavy refactoring of blatant (lazy) abuse of defer/panic/recover in go-multiaddr, go-libp2p, go-libp2p-kad-dht, and go-libp2p-blossomsub to rip out huge chunks of stacked 200-600ns penalties that were blocking our targets for routing - passed the connection management/routing success tests supporting an overload of 100M messages/sec - Upstreamed the libp2p specific changes to our separate fork of libp2p stack so other teams can share in the perf wins: https://github.com/QuilibriumNetwork/go-libp2p-stack

I’ve been approached about NFT collaborations, project endorsements and a few other things now that I need to make a few firm statements: - I don’t do that - I won’t do that - If I didn’t sign it, I didn’t say it - I don’t stand for scams, shitcoins, pump and dumps or the people that enable them

Progress Update from: https://quilibrium.discourse.group/t/psa-2-0-launch-steps/486/52 Update: Things are moving along well, a few adjustments have been required as expected, but largely is holding strong – stronger than intended to be tested as a bug in the node deployer kicked off more than twice over and ramped up to over 200,000 peers. (RIP my infra billing) Current state: ✅Peer Exchange - Are the bootstraps properly pruning peers in a way that allows the mesh to build efficiently? After adjustments, sustained at (accidentally) over 200,000 peers ✅Connection Management - Are the bootstraps appropriately handling connections such that they stay below the high watermark? Adjustments already made prior to test, also sustained at (accidentally) over 200,000 peers Next up: ⏳Routing Success - Are the messages successfully routing to all peers once the mesh has been built? ⏳Upper Limits - What is the upper bound on connections before peers are not making it into the mesh or reaching the bootstraps?

Bootstrap operators: if you have not joined the war room chat and updated to v2.0-bootstrap, please reach out – after today the non-updated bootstrap nodes will be removed.
