How do people deal with nihilistic thoughts (basically nothing seems meaningful)?

Have you seen Everything Everywhere All at Once? I found that nihilism was one of the main themes in the movie. It's an amazing movie and really changed the way I appreciate everyday mundane activities

Nothing seems meaningful if you broaden the perspective enough. Your life might be meaningless from the Earth's POV, and Elon Musk's life might be meaningless from the Galactic POV. But you're playing the arcade RPG game called "Life," and you have only one coin to play. And it does matter how you play it!

I do it by realizing that subjective meaning (that which we create)> objective meaning. Then think about what would be a good happy life for you and set about it. Don’t need external validation so much. Also Cameron mentioned but Camus is the master of existential cope. Resistance Rebellion and Death is 🤌🏻

I try to make myself re-read “The Myth of Sisyphus” by Albert Camus (DMs are always open btw) https://www2.hawaii.edu/~freeman/courses/phil360/16.%20Myth%20of%20Sisyphus.pdf

Don’t know if it will work for you, but it can be useful to flip the order that you prioritize logic vs experience. For example, if you *experience* something as meaningful, don’t force yourself to logically prove that it “actually” is. Take that experience as the proof, and let yourself wonder at the how.

I wonder if this feeling is the unintended consequence of us placing so much importance on ‘meaning’. Even 100yrs ago people perhaps put one day in front of the other and got on with it, Vs thinking their life / actions had to have meaning to be worthy. Existence may be enough?

It can be a struggle, I think it might help to understand some of the possible root causes. This series of lectures is long, but a few hours in I’m loving it and it might be of interest to you: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLND1JCRq8Vuh3f0P5qjrSdb5eC1ZfZwWJ
