Diane Arbus 1923-1971 "I don't know what a good composition is. There's a certain right and a certain wrong. And sometimes I prefer the wrong." Diane was called a "freak photographer" and was often accused of showing the world what it didn't want to see. She became the Diane Arbus we know thanks to her acquaintance with photographer Lisette Model. "Photograph from your guts!" she said, in a rather crude and literal form calling for shooting, being frank with herself. In the early 1960s, Diane began photographing those who are often called "the dregs of society", people who are different from others, including circus performers, transvestites, dwarfs and giants. She saw their deviations as an advantage. The main characteristics of her work are considered to be psychological depth and interest in marginal subjects. In 1971, Diane committed suicide. Films about the life and work of Diane Arbus "Fur: An Imaginary Portrait of Diane Arbus" (2006), directed by Steven Steinberg 8 pieces in comments

"Photography was essentially a colonial tool. The pictures served to demonstrate supposedly, scientific hierarchal differences between people and cultures. They also served to degrade individuals into types based on exterior features" Rewriting science. Call me a scientist.

Cornet-trompe in D, ca. 1862 Attributed to Alphonse (Antoine) Sax "This unusually wound hunting horn was designed to be more easily handled than the traditional large and unwieldy hooped horn used in the field to signal to members of the hunting party. Its ergonomic form enables it to be tucked snugly under the arm against the player's body for safe and convenient carrying." https://www.metmuseum.org/art/collection/search/501683

“I have problems with a lot of photography, particularly street photography and photojournalism - objectifying the other, finding the contempt and exoticism that you might feel within yourself or toward yourself and projecting it out to others. There can be an abusive power to photography, too”
