Gm Wake! I've made it up to 2700 (baby steps) and I also wonder how many of them are real. I didn't lose too much during the reevaluation of followers, but I do know that my biggest gains seemed to be mostly bots months back (I guess they are active). Many of the artists that follow me that are real left though.

follower counts are a vanity metric. influencers use them to look important, but they're too bloated to mean anything imo. anyway! congrats to meeeee lol

I guess that's what makes them influencer. The follower counts gives them the influence. But if you're not giving back to the counts, you lose the counts. Congratulations!

the number contributes to the feedback loop, yeah. people see it, assume that person has value, and are more likely to follow. that, in turn, trains the algos to surface the influencer because they appear to be popular because they appear to earn followers. the loop does require occasional action from the entity (in this case, me), but much of the growth isn't due to my contributions, it's just the big getting bigger. i could probably stop using farcaster right now and still hit 100k followers.
