I think for example ens is useful to crypto users and devs (and has adoption within apps)

I think lending markets are useful in providing stablecoin yield based on demand for leverage 

I think games can be fun (prolly not useful) see eg parallel or duper

VLC and Gimp are useful by themselves.

Onchain DNS and Venmo alternatives are only useful in so far you have the cooperation of enough people to drive adoption.

Your ens would be useless if no one but you cared about it.
