Wang Sheng is moved by her beauty and decides to take her in. However, Wang Sheng's wife is suspicious of the woman and feels that she is not human. Wang Sheng dismisses his wife's concerns and continues to pamper the woman. One morning, Wang Sheng accidentally wakes up early and sees the woman changing her face through a crack in the door. He discovers that she is actually a demon who uses a painted face to disguise herself as a human.

Wang Sheng is terrified and tries to chase the demon away, but it is too late. The demon eats Wang Sheng's heart and escapes. Wang Sheng's wife is devastated and seeks medical help, but to no avail. In desperation, someone tells her to find a Taoist priest. The priest informs her that Wang Sheng can still be saved and gives her a gourd containing a magical medicine. The priest instructs her to apply the medicine to Wang Sheng's wound. Miraculously, Wang Sheng recovers. The priest advises them that the demon is attracted to human beauty and vitality and must be eliminated. The priest and Wang Sheng's family then devise a plan to lure the demon back and use their combined strength to subdue it. The priest uses his magical powers to bind the demon and burns the painted face, freeing Wang Sheng's family from its grasp.
