if ethereum is planning to be rollup-centric, there is no need to increase the gas limit. we should, in fact, be targeting to lower it once L2s get permissionless block proposals

AFAIK we raise the block gas now by 20%. My understanding is that this is just ok to be doing. Raising the gas limit does not take away from any of the many improvements that are happening everywhere. My understanding is further that gas will become no factor at all once we have everything snarkified. At this point, we are probably going to talk about proof limits or whatever ceiling we reach next. It is all about tradeoffs along a long journey of strategic execution of many different initiatives, a lot of which are implemented in parallel.

not rly u w zk proofs u can prove execution but u need state to generate the proof from
