It looks like basically pi-hole as a service?

That's pretty much it. pi-hole isn't that convenient if you move around a lot (though you could run it locally or on a server somewhere, but then you could just pay for NextDNS).

Actually never heard of NextDNS until I saw an HN thread about a similar product yesterday
