Americans are right about measuring temperature in Fahrenheit instead of Celsius.

I don't understand why. Celsius is easier to comprehend

It's not really. F provides higher resolution and human beings are pretty sensitive to temperature.

Freezing point in Fahrenheit: 32°F

Freezing point in Celsius: 0°C

Boiling point in Fahrenheit: 212°F

Boiling point in Celsius: 100°C


212 – 32 = 180
100 – 0 = 100

it's 3 sigfigs either way, C provides higher resolution

0° Celsius is pretty darn easy to recollect as freezing point. It's also easier to use this as a mental bookmark to estimate how hot or cold something is. And, by the way, where have you been?

It's quite simple to pick up a range of 100°C as boiling point and 0°C as freezing point. Using these benchmarks, any temperature in between can readily be understood
