degen and ham chains were mistakes and they set the whole farcaster ecosystem back im posting this after reaching out to @jacek and @deployer privately, but since they both answered that they have no plans on sunsetting the chains, i want to give a heads up to all other teams building their economies on farcaster: don't launch you own chains 1. fc ecosystem only has a chance to work if there is a lot of liquidity in one place 2. separate chains fragment the liquidity and only benefit the passive token holders (less sell pressure) and mev bot operators (arbitrage between chains and pools). actual users pay in UX, mev and fees 3. devs who want to launch integrations with these projects are fucked because most infrastructure providers don't support these small chains im building supercast wallet and it's beyond frustrating to see how close we were to having something truly great and how much harder it is to build a good UX on top of these projects because they selfishly decided to launch their own chains

I completely disagree that people should not spin up their own chains. To me, what OP Labs has enabled people to do (i.e., create customized/specialized or even generalized blockchains using shared standards) is one of the most exciting parts of blockchain tech. I can understand the frustration of hooking up these newer types of chains into something one is building, but maintaining this belief that people should simply not create chains (which OP Stack allows for very easily) isn’t a forward-thinking mindset. I feel as though Ham and Degen are pioneers that took a risk in creating their layer-3s. If more people dared to do so sooner, not in 1-2 years from now when the OP Stack improves even MORE, then I bet the issue you face currently wouldn’t be so significant. Just like @karl-op says, they think there will be thousands, millions of chains. I really hope he is right! https://x.com/liamihorne/status/1848943200188203182?s=46

i support building more L2s on superchain launching esorteric L3s with no infra support is ridiculous and somehow we have 2 in our ecosystem

I agree with @mpryor.eth that "more chains bad" is taking a hammer to the problem and ignoring the nuances. But @woj.eth has a point that the supporting infra requires a lot of work to setup. These chains are super early adopters, and they're taking the hard path because of that.

Notice that Liam, a founder of Optimism, specifically says “cast” on L3. Perhaps Farcaster should work towards this goal, and if they do, would likely lead the way for creating better infrastructure tools.

So let’s just stop all forms of blockchain innovation then, yeah? I think classifying them as “esoteric” is strange. They serve a need for a small group of people, which is great! This small number of people could and will likely grow over time. Moar chains. MOAR CHAINS!

L3s can and will join the Superchain and benefit from all the amazing things it offers. What is unfortunate is they will likely take more time to adhere to interoperability standards, as Optimism points out, which L2s will have much sooner. But that doesn’t mean they won’t ever benefit from interoperability. It’s coming. Lack of infra must surely be frustrating. I am not innovating like you are, so major props to your efforts. I believe in the Superchain vision for both L2s and L3s. https://x.com/optimism/status/1788268495911919623?s=46
