I host a themed dialogue within the Design School - TEK (trad'l eco knowledge) for Drylands. We've discussed qanats, mamanteos, chinampas, johads... Tomorrow's chat ft @coolbeans1r.eth re waffle gardens! We plan to install a sizable demo at Wildcat Bluff Discovery Center this winter 🀠 https://design-school-for-regenerating-earth.mn.co/

I'm hosting Joe, Penny & a few others from the Design School to Regenerate Earth here on southern high plains next week - an homage to the land & prep for bioregional organizing. Will be busy! Will see Bison at Caprock canyons, failing reservoirs Mackenzie & Buffalo Lake, degraded & restored playa wetlands (Ogallala Commons field day), our landscape rehydration works at Wildcat & the Kritser, & multiple rivers including the Canadian, the N Canadian aka Beaver, the Cimarron & the Arkansas. Am pumped, aim to share more here as it goes...

More #NIDS (natural infrastructure in dryland streams) in action. This is a low magnitude flood event, had 2-3 like this since the start of the growing (& rainy) season. The prime objective for yr 1, get vegetation established within, on & around the structures - nature helps withstand high magnitude flow events 🀠

Yea so our high plains region is degraded - one result being, rapid runoff. We're piloting landscape rehydration works to slow, spread & sink stormwater (& retain nutrients). Our current early efforts are in priority areas, where we expect a big bang for the buck, that are publicly visible to educate & inspire others in our bioregion.

This February, we built 80 leaky weirs to slow, spread & soak stormwater, retain moisture & nutrients, recover healthy riparian function & recharge groundwater - along W Amarillo Creek at Wildcat Bluff Discovery Center It's rained enough to activate flow & we're harvesting rainwater πŸ’ͺ🏽 A good start🀠

We've gotten rain enough to activate one branch of W Amarillo Creek - our leaky weirs slow, spread & soak stormwater to retain moisture & nutrients, recover healthy riparian function & recharge groundwater #lfg ;) /regen

A warm Farcaster welcome to @majordomo-monger! Mark is black belt erosion-fighter, hugely helpful to our landscape rehydration efforts in #txpanhandle

Will dm manana Can we use this to log, compile MRV type eco data? Location data preserved when casted or added to zora? upload, mint, organize & manage permissions, relate smart contracts? Then again after flood, fire or periodic l

Walked part of Van Neta creek this weekend, just S of historic Valle De Oro (urban legend says gold in hills, more likely named for colored soils) Landowner interested in landscape rehydration works. Def intrigued but where to start, not much local materials to work with & most importantly, who pays!?

#OgallalaLife collab w/ #DHDC - built 80 #NIDS along West Amarillo Creek (Natural infrastructure in dryland streams) A favorite article on why "slow the drainage of water from the landscape such that more of it can infiltrate and be used to facilitate natural physical, chemical, and biological processes... 1/2
