Zero knowledge virtual machines like @a16zcrypto’s Jolt, RiscZero, and Succinct’s SP1 use RISC-V, which opens the door for greater Ethereum compatibility with arbitrary Rust code, inheriting the tooling that is already being built around RISC-V

As Vitalik states, smart contracts in Rust currently are less readable than in Solidity. (I know that I significantly prefer Solidity for smart contracts for this reason - they’re much simpler). 

But the benefit is that the zkVMs are effectively front-running this proposal, giving the crypto ecosystem a long lead time to develop better tooling for any languages that can compile to RISC-V
