ok, maybe i wasn't clear enough.
i don't sell any of the airdrops i've received from farcaster — they're all just sitting on my warplet and not going anywhere.

but i don't like having my miniapp library full of stuff i don't actually use, so once i claim an airdrop, i'll usually delete the app if it doesn't feel useful for me (why would i have a walletconnect miniapp, for example?).
same goes for following accounts — i don't like following people or products i'm not genuinely interested in.

that said, farcaster really encourages you to claim your airdrops — you even get a notification for it.
so my question is: is it bad to complete the claim steps and then delete the apps or unfollow the accounts afterward?

airdrops are from apps trying to get users. 

if someone is consistently not using apps and selling airdrops, i suspect devs will not be excited about sending them tokens, unless there is a compelling reason to be convinced that you won't do it this time.

I feel you but it’s a necessary tradeoff imo

The FC airdrops are small, usually $10 or less. It’s not like the tax liability is very significant. I don’t know what the actual criteria is but I bet if you sell it after 2-3 months it’s not going to affect your status much.

It doesn’t make a lot of sense for FC and the apps that are airdropping tokens to send them to people who they expect to sell them in the immediate term

This is a reminder that you don’t owe the protocols/apps anything. 99% of coins go to zero and you don’t get some sort of diamond hands trophy for hodling.

Make your app fun or useful (see $bracky) and people will use it and even buy more.

Yeah I’m not arguing against that. The tradeoff is random app creators don’t owe random casters airdrops of their token. So if someone has a history of being a weak steward of airdropped tokens, it follows that protocols will want to filter them out of random airdrops if possible

yea I totally understand your point but aren’t they distributing these tokens for feedback and to get users to try the product? To then hope that user buys more, uses the product, etc. I’m not sure the protocol really cares who sells the tokens they already agreed with farcaster to send x amount to x amount of users.

You’re both right. What Celo airdropped was pennies compared to their mcap, if 100% of users airdropped sold, their mcap wouldn’t budge. But I don’t blame protocols for being selective on who they chose. Also, I’ve talked more about Celo today than if I had gotten the airdrop 😂 so it’s a win win for them.

These were the first batch of ~10 airdrops to Farcaster users (~$110K so far). Early on as projects target potential new high quality users, they're factoring in how likely is this user to convert (not a retro airdrop)

Sometimes projects choose to exclude users if there have been *multiple* prior airdrop sales in the past (not if you just sold 1). Put yourself in their shoes if a user immediately sold multiple prior airdrops, they're prob less likely to convert and you can give to another user that is higher likelihood 

That said, you won't be permabanned forever for selling multiple as this is building some data early on and there will be factors that can help outweigh (post high quality content, use mini apps, do onchain txns)

As Farcaster grows and becomes more valuable to target, airdrop amounts will naturally be larger too

In some cases I could see that being mostly true. In others not though. Just saw this from someone apparently directly involved with setting up these airdrops. Sounds like they give the protocol the option of using the “sold past airdrops” criteria in their airdrop
