airdrops are from apps trying to get users. if someone is consistently not using apps and selling airdrops, i suspect devs will not be excited about sending them tokens, unless there is a compelling reason to be convinced that you won't do it this time.

so I’m expected to just claim an airdrop to hold forever let it go to zero and pay taxes on the airdrop I took at the price it was at. make it make sense

I think there are 2 lessons from recent airdrops and the discussions that followed: For air drop recipients: if you want to be included in airdrops, understand that the reason people give air drops is to acquire users. If you tend to sell token and remove the app, you are less likely to be included in future ones. For air droppers. If you want people to use your app, free money isn’t enough. While you have their attention for a brief moment, make sure you are telling your story, who you are, why they should care, why they should use your app, etc. “what’s in it for me” is a good model for understanding user behavior

i'm consistently not using most (maybe any) of the apps that airdropped me tokens — but i'm also not selling them, since none are really worth the swap. @dwr.eth said this isn't a good strategy, but this isn't even a strategy — i'm just genuinely not interested in their products. and honestly, i doubt most of the people they’re airdropping to are either. they do it hoping a few will stick around — i just happen to not be the fit (not even sure why i'm being selected for these, tbh). so, it all got me confused...why do i need to think of a strategy when deciding what to do with these miniapps?

Right but let’s say you received a token for a sports betting app, and you don’t like sports or gambling, so you ditched it for USDC to tip out to other casters and to use elsewhere in defi. Then an airdrop for wallet connection and a network you have been using for years excludes you. Tell me how that makes any sense?

Makes sense about using the apps but selling tokens is normal, they are basically a payment for our time and energy, it's not like an NFT people should hold onto. And we have to pay taxes on the value at time of airdrop. If they don't want people to sell they should send NFTs or tokens that don't have monetary value.

I understand the devs. But at the same time the segmentation/ targeting before might have been bad. If you give me a token for something I am not going to use, I will sell it. So it’s not like this reasoning explains everything, I don’t think it makes too much sense tbh.

I think the two opinions are saying different things. He agrees with holding the airdrop, but seems to be negative about airdropping via mini apps. Like fastjpeg recently. I agree with him. I think mini apps should give people something useful. Not just an airdrop outlet.

Therefore, as Farcaster users who receive airdrops and do not want to sell them, we need additional functionality in the wallet application. For example, DeFi - staking of airdrops. This is simple, as an option)
