Today’s #admired work is “Ruins of Empire II or the Earth Swallows the Master’s House” (2024) [earth, steel, & binder] by Kiyan Williams which I caught at the Whitney Biennial this week.

Everything returns to the earth, is consumed by it. The built, the builders, & those foolish enough to think themselves more enduring than either. Loved this piece and how its materials play into its message. It’s massive and imposing but also very temporary.

I really dug the look into the increasing gaps between sky high primary sales and bargain lots of fundamental lessons to be gleaned by artists basement secondary sales for a bunch of “high profile” works. Lots to be learned by artists & collectors of all levels here.
