What's on your mind re: Farcaster? Feels like there's been a subtle uptick in negativity recently directed at a variety of people / teams. I'd rather that be directed my way. Curious to hear what people are frustrated with in the replies. Will only ask clarifying questions, i.e. no arguing or defending or telling you that you're wrong. And then I'll do a video response in a few days sharing our latest thinking based on any common themes.

One meta belief I have, is that I think "on the face pursuing idealistic objective A, but actually being tilted toward selfish objective B" is better than "openly pursuing objective B". Many seem to believe the opposite, typically saying something like "at least the latter is honest". I feel like what this misses, is that maintaining the face of pursuing idealistic objective A, and using A to coordinate a large coalition, is a pretty big speed bump against attempts to pursue B too brazenly. When "the mask comes off", things actually become much worse, and strategies that pursue B at high costs to other values (including A, and also often general human decency) become unlocked. Are there any good arguments against this intuition I have? (Whether generalized, or about specific situations)

Tried reading two books recently with o1: The Fierce Urgency of Now: Lyndon Johnson, Congress, and the Battle for the Great Society — impressed with how well it could summarize the salient points from the history without mentioning the book. Also asking it study questions (per Tyler Cowen) was useful immediately after reading to gauge comprehension. The Iliad (Lattimore translation) — amazing to use the voice feature while reading. For example all of the epithets and patronymics are immediately translated for you with context. Also you can ask it to recite the Ancient Greek for any of the translated English lines. It’s like reading with a Classics professors on-demand. Overall, incredible experience. A bit sad that I missed school years with this level of AI. Makes me excited for my kids. Bearish Wikipedia rabbit holes. Bullish AI conversational rabbit holes.

It's not enough to be "the third thing". There are so many possible third things that at times different people's proposed "third things" end up being almost exact opposites of each other. The vibe of being "the third alternative to escape the binary" is appealing, but it has to be matched with the right substance.
