Reflecting on a year of Warpcasting, I read and then deleted every one of my casts. There were thousands, most related to tipping and receiving DEGEN. Funny the things that were popular for a while (cards, frames, art, Alfafrens, coins, tipping, AI Agents, NFTs, channels, etc.)—and then weren’t any more. The single-most enduring things were DEGEN, HAM and MOXIE. I minted NFTs, bridged, swapped, etc. but I didn’t form REAL friendships IRL. That was my fault. And I didn’t find my niche and role in Web3. Had I committed to learning to code, I might be building apps right now. Payments are the obvious purpose of blockchains, but I worry that, like the pic below points out, there are shortcomings. Money laundering and sanctions avoidance and downsides, as is the undermining of the U.S. financial system & dollar. I’m still on the fence about whether it’s net good or bad, but it doesn’t seem like it can be stopped. I expect 2025 to be bumpy.
