lol not that it's the same imagery, but heard a great talk by Margaret Atwood on this topic (dystopian writer) She was born in the 30s and, despite everything, has never been more positive on the current state of the world

Yep! Someone asked her during the pandemic if she thought her dystopian ideas were coming to life. And she shut the questioner down hard saying that she’s happy not to have everyone dying constantly from diseases like polio or starting world wars Something along the lines of “it may not seem like it, but the world is better than ever, and it continues to improve at a rate we’ve never seen”

Well yeah, i guess its two different things. How the world overall is doing over the last 500/1000/2000 years. We are doing great now from that perspective as opposed to what is the immediate and current political/environmental situation. I think it boils down to how this question is asked.
