Can you summarize (for me, a naive rube) what shares are and why this works? I assume some incentive to play without cost?

In /bracket fans buy voting shares (denominated in $degen) into their fanbase. These go up and down in value based on how many people buy, and how the team does in the tournament To get everyday fans in without asking them to get degen first, we're subsidizing free shares at signup if they have the valid .edu email

Asking non-crypto people to get degen is not just friction, it's a non-starter. Our hope is that they can learn about it by having fun with it without cost. Bridges we will be crossing: (1) smoothest way for newbie to add more degen if they want (2) smoothest way for them to take out their degen if they want.
