So only a small fraction of the total massed is likely to proceed? I've read in excess of 250k troops called with a similar amount stationed at the border. You're confident 1/50th will proceed on foot?

Got it. Recalling that America's "war on terror" was an open-ended campaign with no real financial or cultural limit. Israel has made clear that they want Hamas destroyed. What does this mean, practically? And does IDF have the humility to stop when they've won or will this be another endless military quagmire?

No not confident, but remember that a ton of those are cooks, base security guards, office workers, intelligence, camera operators, janitors, trainers. 

Israel also doesn’t want to risk too many soldiers so it’ll happen in waves. All depends how long it continues.
