back in november, no one on twitter knew about farcaster. by december, ct transplants of two kinds began arriving, drawn like moths to our bright, beaming shitcoins: >profiteers, inspired by $POINTS (then $DEGEN) and the farcaster narrative >tourists, who follow profiteers but have no skin in the game the ct transplant tourists were gone by May/ June. the ct transplant profiteers who haven't left are still churning and will exit by end-of-year. their fortunes ride or die with twitter, whether they realize it or not. markers: >exited farcaster social tokens (all at once or progressively, disillusioned) >out of alignment with native farcaster token economy (no tribe) >pontificated often and loudly on why: [insert reasons here, usual blah blah] >theatrical pivot to alternative crypto scenes (Solana, usually) risk: >ct profiteers are habitually toxic: their farcaster shitcoin profits were less than they wanted (of course) and that makes them bitter and unneighborly. fascinating to watch play out, tho 🍿

I came here way back because I wanted a web3 based social. It felt lonely until my art friends started joining. It was going great for a while but like all socials, it reached the point where they cut the engagement for the average accounts and people are leaving. Shitcoins and points were a big player but what truly was brilliant for art was the frames to mint within the app. Now that I’ve lost my PB the frames don’t even load automatically. My friends are leaving. Maybe we are the tourists 💩

no, but it does sound like you're on the edge of churning out over technical friction (ie, frames). that's understandable. confused by "cut engagement for average accounts" -- can you expand on that?

I lost my PB and so did most of my friends. Without it, I went from getting a decent amount of views to 1-2 views per cast. Artists share art, not so much new content and for the algo we seem to be spammers I guess, as our content is based in repetition. I can imagine why we lose engagement but it’s impossible to keep sharing new art everyday when we spend so much time trying to be seen (not only here, it’s the constant struggle you will hear from 99% of artists everywhere) and there is very little time to actually create. I’ve been a full time artist for ~25 years. It’s a cruel industry. And I’m one of the successful ones - if you consider all I’ve achieved. And yet, without exposure we get no sales. Not sustainable. Seriously considering to get a car again and Uber to cover basic bills.
