One question: is being paid for the content we produce just a temporary dream? Or can Farcaster (and the projects that emerge here) really make this happen over the long term?

i think they'll succeed, but the path to that is a lot harder than we're admitting. it's not a tokenomics thing. people just can't be secondarily rewarded for work they'd /otherwise/ find rewarding.

that's the needle we need to thread. reward people for the work they otherwise love to do without destroying the purity of that motive.

yep. if done carefully, that's a good way to reinforce the behavior you want without ruining it. need the behavior to occur organically, be able to spot it, then arrange a suitable reward some time later (but don't wait too long).

so retro-active funding sounds like a great idea, not just for public goods.

yep. it is VERY difficult for something to be both for FUN and for PROFIT. A fun game might include a prize, but that's different.

I think this is what makes crypto gaming a hard sell. People just want to have fun and, at least with gaming, any talk of monetizing it takes some of the enthusiasm out of it
