My perspective on this has changed as I’ve gotten older, my kids get jobs, and they start thinking about college, “do what you love” matters less. Satisfaction is key. Personally, I’m always searching for “fit”. “I live to play video games” is bad direction.

It's a balance. The best predictor for success among post-graduates is their emotional rigor, less their academic credentials. You can walk out of school with every single A and /still/ be less successful than stoics (demonstrably, empirically, every culture). And worse: you're unhappy, which isn't good for anyone.

YES, 100% — As for the sake of As are a failing grade. My wife presses the kids on good grades, whereas I'm more about the so-called intangibles: curiosity, embracing discomfort, etc. Between us, grades are a means to an end & classes are what you make of them. A good tag team.
