This cast hits the nail on the head. I'm all for anyone launching tokens, including the President. The dominant theme on my timeline seems to be excitement when price goes up and despair when price goes down. If you truly want permissionless systems, this is all part of the game.

The criticism is not about the permission less system. It's about the President.

Are you arguing that the President should not be allowed to use a permissionless system to launch a token?

No. I'm saying that when you get the freedom to do something, you are judged and criticized on how you use it.

That's fair. I've seen many people critiquing the fact that he launched a token, how he set up the distribution, etc. My point is that he should be able to do this just like the rest of us, and the market will determine how they feel about it. Some will let this decision negatively affect them and taint their perception of crypto, others (like me) will laugh along and move on. I don’t think everything needs to be such a big deal - even if social media makes us feel like it should be.

Should he be? There are regulations in place to prevent insider trading for other politicians. Granted he wasn’t in office yet but it definitely seems questionable given he’ll be in a position to change the law shortly

Yes. The regulations we have in place are for sitting politicians afaik - and he launched this before taking office again. I think his incentives are now aligned with everyone else who holds crypto, and we will see what he does with that info.

Let's leave "everyone" out of the discussion. I hold. His incentives are not aligned with me.

Sounds like this may have struck a nerve. Here’s what I meant by incentive alignment: https://warpcast.com/zd/0x3d1dab51

No nerve. I'm a mathematician, and when I say "everyone" or "everything", I mean, like, every one. Otoh, I often see people generalize in favor of what they believe, and use "everyone", "no one", etc without any evidence to support the generalization. So, I just provided a counter-argument. :-)

Well, in this sense, it actually struck a nerve, you are right.
