What are the "DePIN" projects that people think are most likely to actually work? It feels like the category is a new name for something that's been around for a decade (StorJ, various decentralized ubers...) but has never gotten off the ground? So what's the bull case for why it will get off the ground now?

Other than a different financial structure (distributed capex allows deployment of infrastructure without huge funding), I believe that some of these projects that involve sensors, will provide an new source of truth about how we see the world.

OK, this is close to home, so very subjective, but: For example, you won't have to rely on a centralized org for weather data when debating climate change, but a decentralized network like WeatherXM. (Ofc there are new challenges there, and while distributed, we are far from being decentralized yet.)

You’re not gonna replace noaa and scientists with sensors. That’s silly.

I don't know any scientist who wouldn't want weather data from 10, 50, 100k more weather stations.
